Discussing the wetlands at Panshanger Park

Owned by Tarmac, Panshanger Park is a former quarry site that has been restored to a stunning country park.

This World Wetlands Day, Michael Charlton, Tarmac’s mineral estates manager, discusses how the park has been carefully restored to create a number of wetland areas and habitats.

Panshanger Park invites you to join tree planting events this Winter

We are actively encouraging local residents to get digging at a series of tree planting days, as part of our contribution to the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

Designed to create a living legacy in Her Majesty’s name, a new public woodland is set to be created at the Hertford-based park through the project and will include a total of 17,000 trees. The land set aside for the project, will help to restore woodland areas and parkland in the northern part of the park, which is currently used for arable farming.

Hints of Winter are starting to creep in and the hours of daylight are getting shorter. Trees are becoming barer and the incoming Winter migrants, such as the wigeon and gadwall – on and around the lakes – are fully settled in for the season. The jays, squirrels and other small mammals are still busily catching the remaining acorns and chestnuts for the coming months.
