200 take part in MOVE Week event at Panshanger Park

June 13, 2017

On Sunday 4th of June, around 200 people took to Panshanger Park to take part in free walks, sports, an obstacle course and craft activities, at an event designed to encourage all the family to get active and celebrate MOVE Week 2017.

MOVE Week is an annual Europe-wide campaign promoting sport, physical activity and the positive impact on society they bring. MOVE Week 2017 in East Herts is driven by Active East Herts, Tarmac and Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trust at Panshanger Park and is supported by other organisations including East Herts District Council, Network Homes and Herts Sports Partnership.

The “Get Moving at Panshanger Park” event provided a fantastic platform to engage people and communities of all ages and abilities. Activities such as health walks, football, dodgeball, Tai Chi and an obstacle course, as well as art and craft activities, gave children and their parents a chance to play together and demonstrated how sport and being outside can help bridge the generation gap.

Jennifer Gilbert, Panshanger Park People & Wildlife Officer said “We were very pleased to be involved with Active East Herts and host this event at Panshanger Park as part of this year’s MOVE Week. It was a pleasure to welcome lots of people who had never visited the park before – children and adults alike – having a great time playing sports, having a go at our obstacle course or joining our wild themed health walks, all set within the stunning landscape of Panshanger Park. We hope we will be able to host MOVE Week at Panshanger Park again in the future!”

Michal Siewniak, Community Development Manager for CVS Broxbourne and East Herts, and Vice Chairman of Active East Herts, said “MOVE Week this year has been a tremendous success. By providing a variety of activities, we were able to encourage people to try out something new and different. It is really fantastic that Active East Herts was at the forefront of such a great initiative. The MOVE Week 2017 created an environment which helps to break down barriers, tackle social inclusion and improves community relations. Our event at Panshanger Park helped to foster interest in volunteering and sport participation.”
