Panshanger Park has introduced Dan Hamley as its new Community Ranger.
In his role, Dan will be responsible for leading the team of dedicated volunteers, coordinating conservation efforts and organising a wide range of community activities and events to support the park’s ongoing preservation and sustainability efforts.
Situated on the site of a former sand and gravel quarry, Panshanger Park, which is managed by Tarmac, has been transformed into a haven for wildlife and a popular destination for local residents. The park boasts a rich array of habitats, from wetlands to ancient woodlands, and is home to a number of protected species. Thousands of visitors visit the park each year to enjoy its natural beauty and attend its numerous educational and recreational events, such as its recent Heritage Open Weekend.
As Community Ranger, Dan will play a key role in ensuring that Panshanger Park continues to flourish, both as a refuge for wildlife but also a welcoming space for the community. He will oversee a variety of volunteer initiatives, including habitat restoration, species monitoring and public engagement activities. The goal being to foster a deeper connection between the community and the park, encouraging more people to get involved in its protection and care.
Michael Charlton, Estates Manager at Tarmac, said: “It’s great to have Dan on board as our new Community Ranger. Dan has been part of the Panshanger Park team for the past year and is already a familiar and trusted face for our regular visitors. His experience and dedication will be invaluable as we continue to develop the park and provide opportunities for our community to get involved.”
Dan said: “I am really looking forward to continuing my work at Panshanger Park in this new capacity. One of my main priorities will be to create an annual programme for our volunteers that is aimed at conserving and enhancing the park’s diverse landscapes and habitats. I can’t wait to collaborate with the community and make a positive impact on this incredible space to ensure its future for generations to come.”
