This weekend, Panshanger parkrun turns ten years old and Tarmac is celebrating.
We are partnering with local scout group, 1st Welwyn Scout Group, to hand out FREE tea and coffees for everyone who takes part in the run, helps to volunteer, or simply wants to come along and cheer on those taking part.
The 5km run starts at 9am on Saturday (12th October), and is an inclusive event where any form of participation is welcomed.
The very first Panshanger parkrun took place on Saturday 11 October 2014, so it is almost exactly a decade to the day that we are celebrating.
Since it began in 2014, the run has seen over one hundred thousand participants in the past decade, and acts as a chance for the local community to come together on a Saturday morning, get outside and connect with others in one of Hertfordshire’s best outdoor areas.
Louise Smith, Run Director, says the tenth anniversary is a big milestone for parkrun, and we’re expecting another big turnout.
“We’ve always had great feedback about the event in Panshanger Park, it’s obviously well loved by the local community.
“It’s been great to work with Tarmac over the past decade to host the parkrun every weekend in this fantastic location.”
Michael Charlton, Mineral Estates Manager, says Panshanger Park is such a beautiful location for the event, and it’s great to see how popular it is with the local community.
“We know how much this parkrun means to our community, and to be able to host it every weekend is a real privilege.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to the parkrun team, including all the volunteers over the years, that have made this event such a success.
“Events like these underpin our ongoing desire to drive positive social impact and enhance community wellbeing across Hertfordshire. Our recent social contribution of £4m to the county shows our commitment to being a key partner in Hertfordshire’s sustainable future.
“I encourage everyone to come along and walk, jog or run the course and grab a free hot drink on us!”
Parkruns are free community events that take place all around the world, with participants enjoying weekly 5k events on Saturday mornings in local parks and open spaces. The aim of parkrun is to be a positive, welcoming and inclusive activity for all ages and abilities – with no time limit.
