Nature migrations

As the summer draws to a close and autumn starts to creep in we may be starting to feel energy levels ebbing and a little lethargic. However, some of the natural world are undertaking some amazing journeys!

Looking after the River Mimram

As the summer draws on we have been experiencing the varied great British summertime weather at its best! Panshanger Park is still staying busy through the summer and the free ‘Life at the Lake’ family events are taking place every Tuesday through August. These provide an opportunity to discover what lives beneath the surface of the lakes at Panshanger! Find us by Riverside lake in the centre of the site.

Thieves Lane Car Park Update

Following the successful recruitment of two assistant park rangers, the parking charge at Thieves Lane car park will now be in place seven days a week.

Wild at Panshanger Park

As summer marches on, strawberries and cream featuring heavily, some sporting events having finished (but we won’t dwell on that!) and others starting, we are now able to enjoy the freedom of the great British summer and the many opportunities it provides for experiencing nature. At the moment Panshanger Park is looking lovely in full summer mode.

Getting wild at Panshanger Park

June this year has been made all the more exciting by the rather late arrival of Spring combined with some overdue warmth and sunshine! June is also when The Wildlife Trust’s ‘30 Days Wild’ nature challenge takes place.

Return of Panshanger Park’s conservation stars

Panshanger Park’s magnificent herd of English Longhorn Cattle will soon be returning to the site. English Longhorns are one of the most majestic of our native breeds and are perfect for grazing historic parklands.

The River Mimram and Panshanger Park

The River Mimram is a chalk river, so named because most of the water in the river comes from springs flowing from the underground chalk aquifer – a natural underground water store. This creates the clear and well-oxygenated water that you can see flowing today. Chalk rivers are a globally rare habitat as there are only 200 worldwide and England has 85% of them!
