Panshanger Park invites the community to celebrate Heritage Open Days

August 4, 2025

Panshanger Park is once again participating in this year’s Heritage Open Days, a national celebration of England’s rich heritage, taking place across the weekend of 13th and 14th September 2025.

The free event, hosted by Tarmac, offers the opportunity for visitors of all ages to explore the historic and natural wonders of Panshanger Park, with behind-the-scenes access, engaging activities, and family-friendly fun. From 10:00am to 4:00pm each day, the park’s Stables, a space not normally open to the public, will come alive with stalls, exhibitions, hands-on crafts, and games, creating the perfect day out for families, nature lovers, and history enthusiasts alike.

A full programme of activities will be taking place, including:

  • Tractor Tours (10:30 AM & 2:00 PM)
  • Guided Walks led by local experts (10:30 AM & 2:00 PM)
  • Meet the Pigs sessions (11:00 AM & 2:30 PM)

There will also be a series of expert talks exploring the fascinating history and natural beauty of the park:

  • Saturday Morning: Anne Rowe – The Pleasure Gardens of Panshanger
  • Saturday Afternoon: Charles Runcie – Marvellous Miss Midd
  • Sunday Morning: Jane Tubb – Chalk Streams and Geology
  • Sunday Afternoon: Tim Hill – The Nature of Panshanger

Children can take part in the Heritage Explorer Trail, earn stickers, and even make their own badge based on their favourite discovery. Meanwhile, refreshments will be available throughout the day in the courtyard.

Bookings for all tours and talks are now open. Spaces are limited, so visitors are encouraged to reserve early via Eventbrite to avoid disappointment. Any remaining spots will be allocated on the day on a first-come, first-served basis.

Free parking is available for all attendees via the B1000 TARMAC entrance (///goal.jars.fades).

Michael Charlton, Estates Manager at Panshanger Park, said: “We can’t wait to welcome the community to discover the hidden stories and natural beauty of Panshanger Park. Heritage Open Days offer a rare chance to explore areas not usually open to the public, and this year’s programme is packed with something for everyone, whether you’re into history, nature, or just looking for a great day out.”
