Join us on a guided river walk to discuss the wonders of our chalk stream the river Mimram.
Come and join Park Ranger Sam on a guided winter walk along the River Mimram and discover stretches of the river not usually accessible to the public. Learn how this special Chalk stream is cared for and the important work rangers carry out to protect the riverbanks and prevent erosion.
At the mudflats, use a footprint identification sheet to uncover clues left behind by the river’s wildlife and identify some of the Mimram’s secretive inhabitants. After entering Broadwater Meadow, you’ll see the area where Scarce Tufted-sedge has been planted as part of ongoing habitat conservation work.
Whilst in the meadow, see the different routes the river takes and hear a brief history of the Broadwater and its diversion channel. Find out how the river habitat changes during the winter months and learn about the bird species often seen in these areas at this time of year.
This guided walk is approximately 3km in length and is not all on formal paths. Please wear suitable footwear and appropriate outdoor clothing, as the route includes areas of thick vegetation and may be uneven or muddy in places.
No dogs allowed as you will be going in nature sensitive areas.
This is a free guided walk, however parking charges apply in the car park, payable by card via machine or by app.
